SEAW Webinar "Engineering Requirements for Mass Timber Buildings"

The SEAW Education Committee is hosting a 2-hour webinar on the topic of Mass Timber Buildings. The advent of cross-laminated timber panel technology has been the catalyst to enable the rapid expansion of a new type of structural system and methods of construction for large scale commercial buildings. This presentation will provide an in-depth technical assessment of mass timber building systems in their application from Europe, to Canada, and most recently USA markets.

A summary will be provided of the current engineering design methods, and testing at the product, assembly, and building system levels that allow the practitioner to demonstrate International Building Code compliance for Type III, IV, and V construction types.

 This webinar will cover:

  • The fundamentals of mass timber material properties

  • CLT and Glulam specification for code compliance.

  • Mass timber and IBC construction types.

  • Mass timber structural system performance.

  • Fire design of mass timber structural elements.
