Presentation: This presentation will provide a background of mass timber building products and methods of design used by structural engineers to deliver two of the first mass timber buildings in Washington State. The talk will provide in-depth case studies of the recently completed five-story Award Winning Catalyst Building located in Spokane WA, and the five-story University of Washington Founders Hall currently under construction. In addition, Hans-Erik will address the Tall Wood building provisions currently adopted in Washington State and our experience in delivering the 80M Tall Wood Building in Washington, DC that is currently under construction.

Hans-Erik currently works for Katerra as a Director of Testing and Certification of Structural Products. He manages the certification for the company’s cross-laminated timber product line manufactured at a 180,000 square foot factory in Spokane Valley, WA. As well, he has led Katerra’s efforts to technically justify and test mass timber panel assemblies and systems for code compliant fire, structural, and acoustic use. Hans-Erik is currently a voting member on the APA PRG 320 CLT and AWC Wood Design Standards code development committees.
