Vince McClure earned the BSCE (1969), the MSCE (1970), and the PhD (1974) from the University of Alabama.

In addition to several decades of experience owning and operating a professional engineering firm in Olympia, he became a professor of civil engineering and Dean of the School of Engineering at St. Martin's University, in Lacey. He retired as Dean in 2008.

He also assisted on structural code reviews for building departments in municipal jurisdictions, including the City of Olympia's Community Planning and Development Department.
