W. David Goodyear earned the Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering in 1973 and the Master's in Structural Engineering in 1974 from Cornell University. From 1974-79 he worked with Structural Mechanics, Stone+Webster; from 1980-87 as Senior Engineer and Principal with Arvid Grant and Associates, Inc.; 1988-95 as President, DGES (David Goodyear Engineering Services) Consulting Engineers, Inc., Olympia; and beginning 1995 as Senior Vice President/Chief Bridge Engineer, North America Operations for T.Y. Lin International. David has led the design for a variety of major bridge engineering projects ranging from cable-stayed bridges to significant arch structures: as the Engineer of Record for the Mike O'Callaghan-Pat Tillman Memorial Bridge at Hoover Dam, part of the Hoover Dam Bypass Project (shown here, recognized as " Outstanding Civil Engineering Achievement " by ASCE in March 2012); the Crooked River Bridge in Redmond, OR; and the Port Mann Bridge in Vancouver, BC. David's work has included a number of major composite bridge structures, such as the East Huntington cable-stayed bridge in West Virginia, and other cable-stayed bridge construction projects throughout the US.He has presented and published his work extensively. His 2013 election to the National Academy of Engineering recognized his leadership in concrete segmental, cable-stayed and hybrid bridge design and construction. Posted June 2012.
